Continuing Education at Kennesaw State University offers certificate programs and training that can help you jump on the fast-track to a rewarding career in hospitality.
If organization, planning and detail are your strong suit, the Meeting and Event Planning Certificate program prepares students for a rewarding career in social and corporate event planning. "If you are the type of person that thrives on project management and you love to see an idea become reality, event planning is your career," says Todd. "The benefits of a career in event planning include great pay, travel, opportunity to attend the events you create and the opportunity to work with high-level executives and celebrities."
Meeting and event planning students are required to complete 63 hours of coursework in topics ranging from planning, negotiating contracts, budgeting, site selection, staffing, marketing and promotion, managing resources, and evaluating events.
Those who are keen on business and communication skills, may be more interested in a multitude of career options in hospitality management. The Hospitality Leadership and Management Certificate program teaches students how to apply techniques of outstanding leadership, develop an understanding of high-performance teams and recognize the need for diversity and cultural change. "Many hotels and restaurants fill first-level manager positions by promoting staff from within, particularly those with good communication skills, tact, loyalty, reliability, good work ethics, integrity and the ability to endure hard work and long hours," says Julie Crews, director. "These will be the employees promoted to leadership or management positions."
In the Hospitality Leadership and Management program, students are required to complete 39 hours in course topics including quality service, communication skills, strategic career planning, and power and empowerment. Upon successful completion, graduates obtain their Hospitality Leadership and Management certificate from Continuing Education at Kennesaw State University, as well as a certificate from the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
